Prof, Mina Elfira, S.S., M.A. Ph D

Prof, Mina Elfira, S.S., M.A. Ph.D is a Professor at Department of Area Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia, where she got her undergraduate degree (S.S.). She received her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the Faculty of Arts, The University of Melbourne, Australia. She is an AusAID (Australian Agency for International Development) scholar.

She is currently the Head of Academic Senate at Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia, and a Member of Academic Senate of Universitas Indonesia. Previously she was the Head of Southeast Asian Studies for Master degree (2017-2019), the Head of Department of Literature (2011-2014), and Coordinator of Russian Studies Program (2007-2010), at Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia

Her selected publication are Minangkabau mothers and daughters in contemporary rantau society: Regaining power with modified matrilineal principles and patriarchal rantau norms (2023), Kritik Sastra Rusia: Diantara Belinskii, Marx, dan Bakhtin (2022), Working from home: Women between public and domestic spheres after the outbreak of COVID-19 (2021, first author),  ‘More like living with it than in it’: The Modified functions of Minangkabau Rumah Gadang of West Sumatra, Indonesia (2019, first author), Slipping into the shadows of Kyai’s figures: Women participation in Indonesian Pesantren‘s web of power (2019), and Lived experiences of Minangkabau Mothers and Daughters:  Gender Relations, Adat  and Family in  Padang, West  Sumatra,  Indonesia ( 2015).  

Mina Elfira’s  research interests and expertise are gender, Minangkabau, and area studies,  which have taken her to speak in various workshops and conferences, such as Matriforum (Austria, 2025), and  FiLIA Women’s Liberation Conference (UK-2025).
