Sistem Penilaian Esai Otomatis (SIMPLE-O) is developed by the Department of Electrical Engineering Universitas Indonesia to assess Indonesian short essay answers. This paper discusses the development of SIMPLE-O using Siamese Manhattan Long Short-Term Memory. Answers from students and lecturers are taken as the input of the system. Both answers are processed with identical LSTM layers. Then, the similarity between them is calculated with a simple similarity equation to determine the score. The average accuracy for the training phase is 92.82 and 84.03 for the validation.
