Civil society plays a crucial and dynamic role in modern governance and sustainable development. This research area focuses on grassroots movements, youth empowerment, and the resilience of local creative industries in Indonesia. We examine how non-governmental organizations, community groups, and local initiatives often fill critical gaps left by traditional state institutions, functioning as catalysts for direct community impact.
Future research directions will heavily emphasize action-research and systems thinking. By exploring soft systems methodologies, we aim to uncover the complex dynamics that strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and empower the younger generation. The ultimate goal is to map out how localized social capital can be leveraged to address national and global challenges.
Our working definition: Civil society dynamics encompass the active, organized, and organic efforts of non-state actors including youth organizations and creative communities to drive social innovation, economic resilience, and sustainable development from the bottom up.
Action-Research on Youth Empowerment and SMEs Competitiveness
This initiative involved direct community engagement to map the operational challenges faced by local youth organizations and creative industry players. Through a series of workshops, focus group discussions, and field observations, the SoCI team collaborated with community members to identify strategic interventions. The focus was on enhancing health awareness and building robust business models for local artisans.
