Psychological First Aid

Course Description

This course aims to equip students with knowledge and understanding of psychological first aid. Compassionate, supportive, and practical support for others who have recently been exposed to a serious source of stress, including through: 

  • Practical, non-intrusive support and care
  • Assessing needs and concerns
  • Helping to meet primary needs (physical, psychological, social)
  • Listening, but not pressuring the individual to speak
  • Providing companionship and helping to foster a sense of calm
  • Connecting the individual to information, services, and other social support
  • Protecting against further harm
