REGEN brings together four faculty researchers from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universitas Indonesia.
Head of REGEN · Professor
Research: Energy system optimization, thermoeconomics, refrigeration engineering, adsorption
Education: Universitas Indonesia (1995) · KU Leuven, Belgium (1999) · RWTH Aachen, Germany (2005)
Email: nasruddin@eng.ui.ac.id
Prof. Nasruddin has taught at Universitas Indonesia since 1995 and earned his doctorate from RWTH Aachen, Germany. His research covers thermoeconomic optimization of power plants and cascade refrigeration, adsorption-based methane storage and CO2 capture, and loop heat pipes for HVAC. He leads a national collaboration on biochar from oil palm waste for thermal energy storage with IPB University, Universitas Sebelas Maret and Sunway University.
Professor
Research: Biomass gasification, waste-to-energy, alternative fuels, wind turbines
Education: Universitas Indonesia (1986) · Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (1997, 2000)
Email: adisur@eng.ui.ac.id
Prof. Adi Surjosatyo works on turning biomass and waste into clean fuel. His projects include sago waste gasification in Papua, rice husk fluidized bed gasifiers, tar reduction, hydrogen-rich syngas and hydrothermal carbonization of municipal waste. He also leads seawater desalination for coastal communities in Bekasi.
Senior Lecturer
Research: Two-phase flow boiling, natural refrigerants (R290), microchannel heat exchangers, ice slurry
Education: Universitas Indonesia (1999) · Chonnam National University, Korea (2004, 2009)
Email: pamitran@eng.ui.ac.id
Dr. Pamitran studies boiling heat transfer and pressure drop of natural refrigerants in microchannels. He designed seawater ice slurry generators to keep fish fresh on small fishing vessels. He received FTUI’s Best Senior Lecturer Researcher award for 2022.
Lecturer
Research: Heat and mass transfer, absorption chillers, air conditioner and heat pump testing, cooling towers
Education: Universitas Indonesia (2009, 2012) · Waseda University, Japan (2019)
Email: arnas@eng.ui.ac.id
Dr. Arnas studies heat and mass transfer in evaporation, condensation and absorption. His work includes dynamic modelling of absorption chillers, water saving in cooling towers and test methods for air conditioners and heat pumps. He was named FTUI’s best young research lecturer for 2023.
