The Energy and Environment Research Group (REGEN) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, develops efficient energy systems, environmentally friendly refrigeration and renewable fuels for Indonesia.
Thermal science for Indonesia’s energy transition
REGEN turns thermal science into practical solutions for Indonesia’s energy transition. We optimize how energy is converted, stored and used. We replace harmful refrigerants with natural ones. We turn biomass and waste into clean fuel and power.

Thermoeconomic and multi-objective optimization of power plants, cascade refrigeration and HVAC systems.

Natural refrigerants, two-phase flow in microchannels, ice slurry, heat pipes and absorption chillers.

Activated carbon and bio-MOF adsorbents for methane storage, CO2 capture and adsorption cooling.

Biomass gasification, fluidized bed systems, hydrothermal carbonization and thermal energy storage.
REGEN combines laboratory experiments, industrial-scale testing and system modelling. Our work serves industry, government and coastal communities, from power plants to fishing boats.
