Shallow Water Mapper (SWM)

The Shallow Water Mapper (SWM) application is the first software innovation developed by Indonesian researchers to adopt Satellite Derived Bathymetry (SDB) technology. This advanced technology development project is led by Dr. Eng. Masita Dwi Mandini Manessa, M.Eng, a lecturer and member of the GEORI research group from the Departemen Geografi, Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA) Universitas Indonesia, who serves as the Project Leader.

The SWM application was officially launched on March 14, 2024. This innovative project is the result of a collaboration between Universitas Indonesia (UI), Badan Informasi Geospasial (BIG), and PT Luwes Inovasi Mandini, with funding support from Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) through the Program Kompetisi Riset Inovatif Produktif (RISPRO).

SWM offers a more efficient, faster, and cost-effective solution by reducing reliance on expensive direct field surveys. Having achieved Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 9, the software is equipped with advanced features such as direct access to satellite imagery, accurate data extraction, and data processing using machine learning algorithms, making it ready for deployment by both government agencies and private-sector organizations. The presence of SWM provides significant strategic benefits for coastal development planning, marine resource management, and the enhancement of maritime security and navigation in Indonesia.
