About Us

As Indonesia’s cities expand at an unprecedented pace, they stand at the crossroads of opportunity and disruption—facing challenges from congestion and environmental decline to infrastructure strain and social inequality. In response, the URISE (Urban Innovation, Sustainability, and Engineering) Research Cluster was established within the Master’s Program of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, as an interdisciplinary research hub dedicated to shaping the future of resilient, intelligent, and sustainable cities.

URISE brings together scholars, practitioners, policymakers, industry partners, and students—particularly from Universitas Indonesia—to co-create applied research, technological innovation, and evidence-based policy insights. By bridging engineering, planning, data science, and sustainability, the lab advances transformative solutions that support inclusive, adaptive, and livable urban development.

Beyond research, URISE serves as a platform for nurturing future urban leaders. It strengthens academic learning and professional skills, especially in areas related to data digitalisation, data management, and analytics, ensuring that graduates are equipped to navigate and shape rapidly evolving urban systems.

Guided by the vision of becoming a leading centre for urban transformation, URISE focuses its work on four strategic domains:

  1. Urban innovation and smart technologies

  2. Urban justice and inclusive settlements

  3. Built environment sustainability

  4. Urban engineering and resilience

Through collaborative research, data-driven insights, and forward-looking innovation, URISE is committed to advancing a future where Indonesian cities are resilient, competitive, and sustainable—empowering communities while safeguarding the environment for generations to come.
