The Challenge

  1. Indonesia faces increasingly complex spatial challenges driven by rapid urbanization, land use change, environmental degradation, and recurring natural hazards.

  2. Spatial–temporal dynamics are becoming more nonlinear and interconnected, making them difficult to interpret using conventional analytical approaches.

  3. The availability of large-scale geospatial data—satellite imagery, UAV observations, environmental datasets, and socio-economic information—has grown significantly, yet the capacity to convert these data into structured knowledge and predictive decision-support systems remains limited.

  4. Real-world space represents a dynamic system shaped by continuous interactions between human and natural processes, involving feedback loops and multi-scale impacts.

  5. Fragmented and sectoral analyses often fail to capture this complexity, leading to reactive rather than anticipatory planning and policy responses.
