Research Interest : Cyanobacterial systematics and toxicology; Phycoremediation; Freshwater ecology.

Biography

Algae and later Cyanobacteria have been my research interests since I was an undergraduate student in 1989 at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia. In 1998, I studied the green algae Closterium moniliferum-ehrenbergii complex at the Department of Biological Science, Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University, Japan.

My thesis was Parthenosporic Closterium moniliferum-ehrenbergii complex. Interest in Cyanobacterial research began in 2004, particularly in rice fields. I combined the morphology-based taxonomy of Cyanobacteria with molecular ecology in my research dissertation, titled Molecular Ecology of N-fixation Cyanobacteria on the Organic Rice Field, under the Microbiology Study Program, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, IPB University.

Now, I continue extensive research on both Cyanobacteria and algae in the fields of systematics, toxicology, phycoremediation, and freshwater ecology.
