Prof. Billy K. Sarwono, MA

Prof. Billy K. Sarwono is a Professor in the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia. In the early stage of his academic career, his research focused on media literacy and gender issues. His inaugural professorial address was entitled “Media Literacy for Gender Equality in Indonesia.”

In recent years, he has authored and co-authored numerous scholarly articles with his graduate and undergraduate students on the intersections of media, gender, and climate change. His international experience includes over a decade of involvement as a member of the Media Climate Working Groups, a collaborative network of researchers from 11 countries supported by several Scandinavian universities.

 

Dr. Hendriyani

Dr. Hendriyani is a Communication Studies scholar at Universitas Indonesia, widely recognized for her significant contributions to research on media and children, as well as media literacy. Within the field of media literacy, her work includes collaborative publications that conceptualize media literacy and advance frameworks for accessing, analyzing, evaluating, and critically engaging with media messages—positioning media literacy as a core competence in the digital era.

Through her teaching and research activities at Universitas Indonesia, she plays an active role in strengthening the capacity of students and the academic community to address contemporary media challenges. Her work emphasizes media literacy within the contexts of organizational communication, children’s and family digital identity, and participatory culture in mediated spaces.

 

Rosy Tri Pagiwati, MA

Rosy Tri Pagiwati has been a lecturer in the Department of Communication, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia, since 2005, where she also completed her undergraduate studies. Prior to pursuing an academic career, she worked for nearly four years as a television news presenter at TVRI Surabaya.

She later earned a Master of Arts degree in Television Journalism from Nottingham Trent University (UK) through the British Chevening Awards scholarship. In fulfilling the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, media literacy has been a central area of her scholarly and community engagement. In addition to conducting research on media and information literacy, she has initiated and led several community service programs aimed at improving media literacy among marginalized communities.

Since 2020, Rosy has been a Google News Initiative Certified Trainer, collaborating with the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) to deliver training on fact-checking and misinformation.

 

Rut Rismanta Silalahi, M.Si

Rut Rismanta Silalahi is a lecturer in Communication Studies at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at Universitas Indonesia. She is also an alumna of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) to the United States in 2019.

Beyond academia, Rut is an active media and digital literacy advocate. In 2018, she founded REDAXI (Relawan Edukasi Anti Hoax Indonesia), a community initiative dedicated to educating the public on media literacy, critical thinking, and combating misinformation. She is a member of JAPELIDI (Digital Literacy Activists Network) and DCN Global (Digital Communication Network), and actively contributes to digital literacy initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region. Rut is also a frequent speaker in the Indonesia Makin Cakap Digital program organized by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Indonesia.

 

Bernika Yustisiana Narang, M.MediaPract

Bernika Yustisiana Narang is a Communication Studies academic at Universitas Indonesia with a strong commitment to advancing critical perspectives on media and digital media literacy. She currently serves as the Secretary of the Undergraduate Communication Studies Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia.

She is also pursuing her doctoral studies at Universitas Indonesia, with research focusing on media literacy. Her work strengthens both the theoretical and empirical foundations for developing pedagogical and research approaches that enhance society’s critical capacity to read, evaluate, and responsibly engage with media in increasingly complex digital environments.

 

Choirunnisak Fauziati, M.Si

Choirunnisak Fauziati is a lecturer and researcher in Communication, Public Relations, and Media Literacy at Universitas Indonesia. She completed both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Communication Studies (Cum Laude) at the same institution. Her master’s thesis, “The Influence of Parental Mediation Factors, Motivation, and Gratifications on Children’s Smartphone Addiction (A Study of Elementary and Junior High School Students in Jakarta),” examines the role of parenting practices, media-use motivation, and gratification patterns in shaping the risk of smartphone addiction among children.

Her research interests include media and family studies, media and digital literacy, and communication practices in the digital era that have social and cultural implications. In both her academic and professional work, she emphasizes media and digital literacy not merely as technical skills, but as critical tools for ethical and effective information use in contemporary society.

 

Neidy Priadisti Laksmita, M.Comm.

Neidy Priadisti Laksmita is a faculty member in the Undergraduate Communication Studies Program at Universitas Indonesia. Her academic interests focus on media literacy for toddlers and children, as well as social media platform use.

She earned her Master of Global Media and Communication degree from the University of Melbourne in 2022, completing a minor thesis entitled “Safeguarding the Boundaries of Digital Platforms: A Study of Indonesian Parental Mediation of YouTube Kids.” Currently, she is actively involved in the production management team at the Communication Laboratory of Universitas Indonesia.
