Advancing Media and Information Literacy Research
PRIMA (Center for Media and Information Literacy Research) is a research center under the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia. PRIMA focuses on advancing evidence-based research on media and information literacy to address the challenges of digital communication. Through interdisciplinary scholarship and collaboration with academic, policy, and community stakeholders, PRIMA contributes to the development of critical media literacy, informed public discourse, and a healthy and inclusive information ecosystem.

This research focus examines media and information literacy among key target groups, including parents, teachers, children, and older adults. Particular attention is given to parental and educational mediation strategies, post-pandemic screen time practices, and the digital inclusion of aging communities. The research aims to understand both vulnerabilities and capacities across different life stages in navigating digital media environments.

This area focuses on the study of misinformation, disinformation, malinformation, and hoaxes within digital platforms. Research explores patterns of information production and circulation, correction behaviors in online communities (such as WhatsApp groups), and the social consequences of information disorder. The findings support the development of literacy-based interventions, public education, and policy responses to strengthen societal resilience against harmful information.

This focus addresses the intersections of digital literacy, ethics, and emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). Research investigates how individuals understand, evaluate, and ethically engage with AI-driven information systems, as well as how algorithmic mediation shapes information access, trust, and decision-making. This area supports the formulation of ethical guidelines, educational modules, and policy recommendations related to digital and AI literacy.
At PRIMA (Center for Media and Information Literacy Research), we specialize in delivering clear, evidence-based research solutions that support the development of critical media literacy and informed engagement with digital information. Our work is grounded in methodological rigor, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a strong commitment to social relevance, ensuring meaningful outcomes across academic, policy, and community contexts.
