Research Roadmap: 2024 – 2028

Towards a Resilient and Ergonomic Future for Indonesia’s Workforce

Our roadmap focuses on the synergy between human factors, health risk management, and the digital transformation of the workplace.

Year 1: Foundational Assessment & Baseline Mapping (2024)

Focus: Strengthening data and identifying post-pandemic health trends.

  • National Occupational Health Profile: Mapping the prevalence of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) and occupational diseases in Indonesia’s emerging industries.
  • Public Space Ergonomics: Assessing ergonomic risks in public transportation and urban infrastructure in the Greater Jakarta area.
  • Methodology Refinement: Standardizing risk assessment tools tailored to the Indonesian physical demographic.
Year 2: Intervention Strategy & Behavioral Safety (2025)

Focus: Developing evidence-based solutions and fostering a safety culture.

  • Ergonomic Intervention Programs: Designing low-cost, high-impact ergonomic tools for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs/UMKM).
  • Psychosocial Risk Management: Studying the impact of remote/hybrid work on mental health and cognitive ergonomics.
  • Community-Based Health: Implementing “Healthy Marketplace” initiatives to manage physical hazards in traditional markets.
Year 3: Technological Integration & Industry 4.0 (2026)

Focus: Leveraging technology for real-time monitoring and prevention.

  • Smart Ergonomics: Integrating wearable sensors and IoT (Internet of Things) to monitor worker fatigue and posture in real-time.
  • Exposure Modeling: Using Big Data to predict long-term health risks associated with chemical and physical hazards in manufacturing.
  • Virtual Reality (VR) Training: Developing VR-based safety simulations for high-risk industrial environments.
Year 4: Sustainability & Green Ergonomics (2027)

Focus: Aligning occupational health with environmental sustainability.

  • Green Ergonomics: Researching the intersection of sustainable workplace design and worker wellbeing.
  • Aging Workforce Adaptation: Designing ergonomic interventions and health management systems for an aging labor force in Indonesia.
  • Climate Change & Occupational Health: Studying the impact of rising temperatures on heat stress and productivity in outdoor workers.
Year 5: Policy Advocacy & Global Leadership (2028)

Focus: Scaling impact through national regulation and international recognition.

  • National Policy Recommendation: Formulating a white paper for the Ministry of Manpower to update national ergonomic standards.
  • Global Collaboration: Hosting an international symposium on Ergonomics in Developing Nations.
  • Total Worker Health (TWH) Framework: Launching a comprehensive, integrated framework for Indonesian industries that merges work-related safety with off-the-job health.
