Our Profile (NOVA Research Group)

The Non-Communicable Diseases Epidemiology, Quality of Life, and Healthy-living Promotion Research Group focuses on cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, metabolic disorders, and occupational health issues that impact workforce productivity and well-being. Research encompasses surveillance and analysis of epidemiological trends, studies of behavioral, environmental, and working-condition risk factors, and the development of healthy lifestyle-based interventions to enhance the community’s quality of life. Promotive-preventive strategies developed include promoting balanced nutrition, physical activity, smoking and alcohol prevention, stress management, improving mental health, and utilizing community, workplace, and digital health interventions. This research group is committed to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by reducing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases, strengthening surveillance and prevention-based health systems, and protecting workers’ health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Social Security Administration Agency (BPJS), the business community, and international partners to encourage the translation of research findings into health service policies and practices.

The Non-Communicable Diseases Epidemiology, Quality of Life, and Healthy-living Promotion Research Group is committed to establishing strategic collaborations with various partners, both domestically and internationally. At the national level, collaboration will be strengthened with local governments through the Health Office and its staff, universities, primary health care facilities, and community organizations that play a vital role in promoting a healthy lifestyle. Internationally, the research group will continue and expand its network with leading universities such as the University of Cambridge, the University of Tokyo, Loughborough University, the University of Bremen, and Martin-Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, as well as with prestigious international institutions such as the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). 

The collaboration not only serves as a platform for exchanging cutting-edge knowledge, technology, and academic resources but also has a tangible impact on both the community and the institution. For the community, research findings can be directly applied to health programs and interventions focused on preventing non-communicable diseases, improving quality of life, and strengthening healthy lifestyles. For the institution, this collaboration serves as a means to strengthen research capacity, enrich the curriculum through knowledge and technology transfer, accelerate international accreditation, and enhance the reputation and global competitiveness of FKM UI. Thus, the collaboration is expected to provide not only academic benefits but also bring about tangible changes to public health and Indonesia’s position on the global health research map.
