Roadmap

Over the next five years, the GSS Research Cluster will advance a research agenda centered on five interrelated priority themes, namely; climate justice, energy transition, the right to development, food security, and fair trade. These themes reflect the structural challenges faced by countries of the Global South within an unequal global governance system and are increasingly shaping contemporary debates on development, sustainability, and global justice.

Research within the cluster is designed to produce critical, interdisciplinary, and policy-relevant knowledge that is attentive to the perspectives of marginalised groups. Emphasizing participatory, community-based, and context-sensitive approaches, the cluster integrates political economy analysis with social, gender, and ecological perspectives to support pathways toward more just and inclusive transformations.

Research activities will take the form of case studies, cross-faculty and cross-country collaborative research, policy dialogues, and public engagement forums. Key outputs include policy briefs, academic publications, learning modules, and policy recommendations aimed at informing governments, international organization, and civil society actors. Through this agenda, the cluster aspires to serve as a hub for knowledge production and policy advocacy that strengthens Universitas Indonesia’s contribution to global debates from a Global South perspectives.
