About Us

The Catalysis and Functional Materials for Sustainability (CFMSus) Research Group is a multidisciplinary research group focused on developing catalysts and functional materials to support environmental, energy, and health sustainability.

Our research covers the synthesis, characterisation, and application of innovative functional materials such as hierarchical porous zeolites, MOFs, carbon/zeolite composites, silica/organosilicas, functionalised with metals, surfactants, organic compounds, for use in various environmentally friendly chemical processes, such as biomass conversion, carbon emission reduction, water purification, energy storage, fertiliser delivery, and biomedical applications such as drug delivery systems.

CFMSus aims to create applicable scientific solutions to global challenges in the fields of renewable energy, clean technology, and sustainable health. We are also open to collaborating with other research institutions and industries to accelerate the transition to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.

Our Vision

  • To become a leading research group in catalysis and functional materials for environmental, energy, and health sustainability.
  • To develop innovative and applicable scientific solutions to address global challenges in renewable energy, clean technology, and sustainable healthcare.
  • To contribute to the transition toward a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future through multidisciplinary research.

Our Mission

  • To design and develop advanced catalysts and functional materials, including porous zeolites, metal organic frameworks (MOFs), carbon/zeolite composites, silica, and organosilica materials.

  • To conduct systematic synthesis, characterization, and functionalization of materials using metals, surfactants, and organic compounds to enhance performance and selectivity.

  • To apply developed materials in environmentally friendly processes, such as:

    • Biomass conversion into value-added products

    • Carbon emission reduction

    • Water purification and treatment

    • Energy storage

    • Controlled-release fertilizer systems

    • Drug delivery systems for biomedical applications

  • To integrate fundamental and applied research to meet industrial and societal needs.

  • To establish strong collaborations with national and international research institutions and industry partners to accelerate technology transfer and implementation.

  • To foster a productive, collaborative, and sustainability-oriented research environment.
