Roadmap

Through research on energy-efficient materials, smart building systems, circular construction, and retrofit strategies, ASBT directly contributes to reducing emissions from the building sector—one of the largest contributors to global energy consumption.

At the national level, this roadmap supports Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement by advancing energy efficiency, low-carbon materials, and climate-adaptive design strategies, contributing toward the national Net Zero Emission 2060 target.

ASBT’s long-term roadmap aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG 13: Climate Action

2025:Formal Establishment and Research Themes Consolidation

ASBT begins as a formal research cluster (SK Dekan FTUI 2025) and consolidates its research agenda around energy-efficient materials, smart building systems, retrofit, and IEQ in tropical contexts. The team initiates internal coordination, identifies grant opportunities, and prepares key platforms (website and journal) to support visibility and governance.

Expected Outputs:

  1. Website content framework drafted (profile, roadmap, members, outputs)
  2. Grant schemes mapped + proposal pipeline initiated
  3. Initial publication plan & internal working groups formed

2026:Activation of External funding pipeline and ASBT’s public presence

This year prioritizes grant writing and submission cycles, supported by internal workshops, FGD, and external review. In parallel, the bilingual ASBT website is finalized and launched to showcase outputs, collaborations, and progress on the roadmap, reinforcing institutional credibility.

Expected Outputs:

  1. 4 Scopus Q1/Q2 publications
  2. 4 external grants submitted, 1 grant granted
  3. 1 patent/HAKI submitted
  4. 1 research-based teaching module (draft/pilot)
  5. 1 publication of popular media article and policy recommendations
  6. Bilingual website launched with periodical updates
  7. Preparation of an academic journal platform (best.eng.ui.ac.id)

2027:Acceleration og Applied research and prototype-driven outputs

With the funding pipeline in place, ASBT intensifies applied research programs and prototype-driven studies (materials, envelopes, retrofit strategies) supported by stronger industry and alumni engagement. Research activities are organized into clearer thematic programs across sub-units to increase consistency in output and publication momentum.

Expected Outputs:

  1. 4 Scopus Q1/Q2 publications
  2. 3 external grants submitted, 1 grant granted
  3. 1 patent/HAKI submitted
  4. 1 publication of a popular media article and policy recommendations
  5. Periodical update of bilingual website
  6. Establishment of an academic journal platform (best.eng.ui.ac.id)

2028:Impact Scaling through cross-sector collaborations

The cluster strengthens national and international partnerships to scale research reach and improve grant competitiveness through collaborative proposals and joint studies.

Expected Outputs:

  1. 4 Scopus Q1/Q2 publications
  2. 3 external grants submitted, 1 grant granted
  3. 1 patent/HAKI submitted
  4. 1 national/international research collaboration established
  5. Popular media/policy: 1 piece
  6. Periodical update of bilingual website
  7. Release of first issue of academic journal platform (best.eng.ui.ac.id)

2029:Strengthening of Research Dissemination for National Relevance

ASBT increases research translation—turning findings into usable tools, technical recommendations, and stakeholder-oriented communication. Output quality is strengthened through targeted publication strategies, conference participation, and preparation of higher-impact patents/HAKI linked to demonstrable performance.

Expected Outputs:

  1. 4 Scopus Q1/Q2 publications
  2. 2 external grants submitted, 1 grant granted
  3. 1 patent/HAKI submitted
  4. 1 research-based teaching module implemented
  5. 1 publication of a popular media article and policy recommendations
  6. Periodical update of bilingual website
  7. Continuance of the academic journal platform through updated issues and quality strengthening

2030:National positioning through consolidated outputs and recognized impact.

By 2030, ASBT is positioned as a nationally recognized cluster in tropical high-performance sustainable buildings, supported by consistent outputs, visible platforms, and active partnerships. The year focuses on consolidating achievements and setting the stage for a transition toward regional leadership (2035+) through larger grants, expanded collaborations, and institutionalized research programs.

Expected Outputs:

  1. 4 Scopus Q1/Q2 publications
  2. 3 external grants submitted, 1 grant granted
  3. 1 patent/HAKI submitted
  4. 1 national/international research collaboration established (2nd partnership)
  5. 1 publication of a popular media article and policy recommendations
  6. Periodical update of bilingual website
  7. Continuance of the academic journal platform through updated issues and quality strengthening
